I set out to release a planner on 11/1/2019. I had 99 days to make it happen. I had no idea how this was going to come about, but I was committed. If you've been following me, you know I don't have a planner… yet. The closest thing I have so far is a printable calendar library, which I launched on November 1, in line with my communicated goal.
So how do I feel knowing I didn’t even come close to doing what I set out to do? Pretty great, actually. I view my pursuit of creating a planner as a success. Now hear me out; key word: pursuit. Here is why:
I stayed in Integrity with a Promise
I told people I was going to launch a planner on November 1, so I kind of launched a planner on November 1. I stayed true to my word and delivered what I could to the best of my ability, even if it wasn't as I had originally intended or hoped. I don't have a lot of followers.. Yet. Until very recently, I'd argue there wasn't much to follow. But the people who follow me and support me now will be among the first people to buy my planner when it does become available. Instead of getting frustrated or feeling embarrassed that I'm talking to "no one" I feel grateful for the audience I do have. How do you ever expect to get more of something if you don't take the time to appreciate what you already have? Start where you are.
I asked for help
I knew if I was going to pull this off, it wasn't going to be something I was going to be able to manage doing on my own. I hired a team of superstars to keep me motivated and who saw my vision as clearly as I did, and we're still working to bring that vision to life. I hired a business coach. I hired a virtual assistant to help me with growing my brand on a daily basis. I hired a professional photographer. I worked on building my brand every single day.
I became obsessed with becoming the best version of myself
I enrolled in Business by Design, James Wedmore's intensive online course and learned as much as I possibly could about starting a company. I started taking Adobe classes to learn how to use the programs. I joined networking groups, researched the industry and hosted my first event.
November 1 came and went, and I had created printable planner pages, but this was so far from what I had envisioned creating. If you look at from this perspective, I failed miserably. But the thing is, I don't look at it from this perspective. I don't view the hard I've put into building my company as wasted. In fact, the only way that this ends up being a failure is if I stop here, at an arbitrary deadline I set for myself before I knew anything about anything.
Make your goals laughable- if you aren't a little embarrassed to tell people what you want, your goal probably isn't big enough.
I'm going to create a planner that sells well over 2,000 copies.
Don't believe me? Just watch.
xoxo,
Allison
