Monday- Day 1.5 of TV Turnoff Week

Uncategorized May 04, 2020

I say day 1.5 because I technically started TV Turnoff week on Sunday, but it wasn’t documented and I started halfway through the day. I will also probably start watching. TV again come Sunday, so there's that

Cheat Moments:

  1. I watched a tarot card Youtube video and knew it was going to be my last video for the week—a final indulgence, if you will
  2. I posted on Instagram for Allison Ziggy after writing my blog post and then watched a few videos before remembering I wasn’t supposed to be consuming media
  3. I noticed myself watching stories on Instagram before remembering the people who saw me post about this little experiment could see me watching their stories aka cheating
  4. I noticed an influx in my online shopping; nothing appealed to me enough to make a purchase, but then again, it is only day 1.5
  5. I listened to Meg Thee Stallion’s Savage.. I think you can listen to music but I’m not sure if you’re allowed to listen to music with words..? Or maybe you can but only when working out? I’m cutting myself some slack on this one because who even does this kind of sick experiment during quarantine??
  6. I started an online LinkedIn learning course on goal setting before quitting halfway through because I realized this might count towards ~watching TV~
    • Side note: the only course I will complete this week is one on Adobe InDesign because trust me, that is education, not entertainment
    • Plus I need to learn InDesign to provide you guys with even more awesome planner printouts, so let’s agree to let that one slide
  7. I opened tik tok to check something my sister sent me…. Major mistake, that was a solid waste of 30 minutes

Positive Outcomes:

  1. I spent way more time today working than I had in the previous weeks and made a lot more phone calls; I feel like I strengthened my professional connections
  2. I wrote this post, which 100% would have never happened had my mind had other sources of entertainment
  3. I talked myself out of ordering Papa Johns because I realized you can’t eat Papa John’s without watching TV; alas, I ate brussels sprouts (had to google the spelling of that) and buffy chicky
  4. I went outside and gardened for a little during lunch; I would have stayed outside longer but I saw a big, hairy spider
  5. I washed my sheets
  6. I worked on my puzzle
  7. I worked out/meditated outside

Daily Conclusions:

I found myself wanting to quit this entire thing despite cheating so many times today. I felt restless.. I started to go for a walk, turned around and went home for my sweater because it was colder than I thought. I then started to go for another walk and then turned around again because it was windier than I thought. I felt guilty after going on tik tok, so I went outside and worked out. I definitely felt the best I had felt all day after working out, so I will make sure to be more diligent about incorporating this into my daily practice.

All things considered, I might be losing my mind, but at least it will be entertaining right? Well technically not for me, because I can’t read, watch or listen to anything.

If you find yourself aggressively against the idea of doing something, it probably means you should do it. I don’t really know why I’m doing this, but I think I’m going to continue doing it. My goal is to cut my cheats down tomorrow and add to my positive outcomes.. I found that working out and then meditating outside afterwards was a very enjoyable experience.

Ideas for ways to fill my time this week:

  • Clean out craft room closet—it came to me while meditating that the clutter in that room is clogging my creativity
  • Resume writing Princess Interrupted—I started writing my book last year and have around 20,000 words written so far. I haven’t worked on it in a few months, but I am definitely feeling newfound inspiration to pick up where I left off. For reference, this post is about 800 words and a novel ranges from 60,000 to 80,000 words
  • Transplant my vegetable garden outside
  • Create more Allison Ziggy business cards
  • Decorate my planner
  • Look up recipes; prepare before going to the grocery store next time

That's all I have for now, let's talk tomorrow!

xoxo,

Allison
