Solo Travel Summer 2022

Hi!!!

If you've been following me on Instagram @allisonziggy, you've probably noticed that I've niched down and have been creating content and providing tips for Solo Travel!

To me, solo travel represents freedom.

When I lived in Chicago and was addicted to my work, I used to scroll Instagram enviously of couples who traveled together. It felt like "if only I had a boyfriend, then I would be able to go on cool trips." My other excuse for my life was my revolving credit card balance. I felt so much shame and guilt for my financial situation. I made a lot of money but had nothing to show for it. "Maybe when I pay my credit card off, I can travel."

In hindsight, I think in part I was justifying my circumstances, because this allowed me to continue bullying myself and fed into my pre-established narrative of self-loathing, but beyond that, I didn't know the possibility of an incredible life existed for me.

I genuinely thought my life would be downhill after college because I didn't have any examples of what a good life would look like. None of the adults in my life were particularly happy. I just kind of moved to Chicago and settled into my sales role, lived a semi-glamourous life with vendor sponsored parties and occasional trips and hoped I would one day fall in love and get married.

The years went by and the credit card balance stayed, the partner never came and my passport remained unstamped. I lived in survival mode, in my bubble of hyper independence and self criticism.

My life changed when I went to Italy by myself. It sounds so cliche, Eat Pray Love and all that, but that is the reality. I went to Italy to honor myself and the life of my Grandmother, who had played a large role in raising me during my parent's divorce.

My grandmother had never been on a plane. She was married at 18 and had her first son thereafter. She had 5 children and dedicated her life to raising them. She was rebellious, hilarious and one of the most kindhearted humans I've ever met, in spite of all the trauma and suffering she had endured during her lifetime. She was highly religious, and I'd like to think she's where I get my witchy side from.

Her spirit led me to Italy and gave me an entirely new life for myself.

Since that first trip in September 2021, I have traveled to 4 countries by myself; Italy, Denmark, England and Portugal, as well as various cities and countless solo experiences.

I share the power of solo travel with you for a few reasons.

#1. It is the most effective teacher of self love

#2. Everyone deserves to live a life that excites them.. you know that feeling of being so excited for the next day that you can't fall asleep? Solo travel gives you that

#3. From an energetic and spiritual perspective, travel unlocks SO MUCH that you would never have access to in a single location (this is a blog post in and of itself)

I'm excited to share this next chapter with you. Make sure you subscribe to my blog to get access to my meditations / planner printouts / everything :)

xoxo,
