Flying Solo: Solo Travel Masterclass

I had no idea what waited for me when I got off the plane in Rome. 

It was September 2021, and I had booked a 8 day trip to Italy on less than 2 weeks' notice.

I was honestly in disbelief that it was happening. 

I had studied abroad in college in 2012- I lived in London for 4 months and it was genuinely one of the best experiences in my life. Whenever I tell anyone about the experience, I simply say "I spent 4 months of my life laughing." To this day it makes me smile. 

The next time I went back to Europe... was this trip. Nearly a full decade had passed, even though my time in London had made such a positive impact on my life.

If you know me or my story at all, you likely know that I've been through a lot. 

I didn't realize that I could take actions independently of my circumstances. 

I had been single and in credit card debt for nearly 7 years by this point. I felt like I "didn't deserve to go" until I paid off my card. I had also been guilty of beating myself up for not having a boyfriend to go with- for so long I thought a man was the answer to solving all of my problems. 

Like I said, I was bound by my circumstances. 

This mindset and perspective held me back for basically my entire 20s. 

When I turned 30, I took myself on a solo trip to Naples, Florida from Philadelphia. Even that felt incredibly daunting at the time. 

Those 5 days, although mentally challenging in unexpected ways, set a new standard of standing up for myself. 

I also miraculously paid off my trip / card the same month I got back.
