I went to bed with a list full of projects I wanted to work on for my business, starting today.
I even made a list of all the content I wanted to generate before my first sales call at 10am. I had it in my mind I would be able to make an Instagram reel, Tiktok, thread, Facebook post and send out my weekly newsletter before 9am.
Unfortunately for me, I woke up tired. I was surprised to find I set my alarm for 7am instead of 6am, and before I knew it, it was time for my meeting.
It is now mid-afternoon, and I am just getting to the second item on the list a la this newsletter.
When I think about what I am personally looking to do through my business, it involves positively impacting as many people as possible. Are the social media posts I outlined the only way to do that? No.
Did all of those things really need to be done by 9am? Also no.
Making a positive impact starts with honoring my own needs first. It involves being kind to myself when things don’t go as planned, and giving my body the time and space it needs to get adjusted to the start of a new week.
The second way to do this is through honoring current responsibilities and obligations. It’s helping my teammate who asks for a few minutes of my time. It’s holding the door open for a neighbor who has their hands full. It’s exchanging the need to rush with the ability to remain present.
So often we can get caught in tunnel vision with taking action but an important question to ask yourself: what is the source of this action?
Action taken from scarcity, or fear, generally won’t yield the results you desire. Action taken from inspiration, or a place of expansion, will. It takes time to discern the difference, but asking the question is a powerful and important first step in gaining recognition.
My unintentionally slow Monday morning inspired this week's journal prompts.
Journal Prompts:
1) What do I want to accomplish this week?
2) Why are these my goals?
3) What am I hoping to gain from successful completion of these items?
4) Is there a way to feel satisfaction with where I am at right now?
5) How do I know when a thought is creatively inspired? (If you aren’t sure how to answer this one, be on the lookout for your next inspired action, and notice the characteristics. Is it rushed or slow? Does it feel exciting or cause dread? Does it whisper or yell?)
