It's known that colors invoke certain emotions. We associate colors with feelings and feelings with colors. Have you ever considered using colors to distinguish between different activities you complete throughout each day?
Categorization is key within organization, which is why I find color coding to be an incredibly helpful resource. It is telling, easy to follow and fun to create.
I use color categories within my email to easily distinguish something I need to refer to repeatedly.
Yellow = Todo
Orange = In progress
Blue = Link
Purple = Contact Information
You can create other categories depending on the nature of your position, but these are the ones I have found to be universally helpful across all the jobs I have had.
Additionally, you can use this concept within your personal life and via pen / paper. When using my daily schedule, I use a highlighter to further categorize my actions by identifying what larger goal I am working towards:
Green = Health
Pink = Relationships
Blue = Career/Finance
Purple = Spirituality
These are just the colors I assigned, but I find it helpful for the color to match the general theme of what you are associating it with.
I like to do this, because it helps me achieve balance in my life, actions and decisions. I can physically see where I am spending my time, and whether or not I am hitting all of the areas I consider to be important. It's really cool to look back week after week and to see trends or where I made adjustments based on the way that I feel.
I recommend using highlighters to distinguish between these categories, but you can also use gel pens, page flags, stickers, post it notes etc.
In alignment with this idea, I will also be categorizing future blog posts by the color associated with the topic. This will help you easily identify posts pertaining to the topic or category you are choosing to specifically focus on.

Allison
